History Of The Development Of The Perimeter
The outline of the visual field dates back to the 5th century BC. The visual field is the area of surrounding space that is seen closely when the eye is fixed forward. In the 17th century, Mariotte discovered the relationship between the papilla of the optic nerve and the physiological blind spot, and thus became the first person to describe the special scotoma. In 1801 ThomasYang made the first real measurement of the field of vision. In the mid-19th century, Forster designed the first curved perimeter, which expanded the perimetry to 450 and determined the outside of the visual field. Bjerrum(1889) invented the Tangent field of View screen and the dynamic multi-line of sight perimeter.
In the 20th century, Ferree and Rand developed on Forster's earlier work, expanding the scope of inspection with arc perimeters. Arc perimeter is still in use today. Starting in 1950, Goldmann's projective hemispherical perimeter was popular for 30 years.
