Visual Rehabilitation Of Amblyopia
The causes of amblyopia can be divided into two categories: one is form deprivation, and the other is abnormal interaction of both eyes. Therefore, there are two kinds of visual rehabilitation for amblyopia: one is to eliminate form deprivation, and the most common one in clinic is to correct ametropia or eliminate the opacity of refractive media; The second is to eliminate the abnormal interaction between the two eyes and the inhibitory effect of the relatively dominant eye on the amblyopic eye.
For the visual rehabilitation of amblyopia, in addition to optical correction, the most commonly used method is direct masking. Usually, many amblyopia cases can be successfully treated only by using this passive treatment method. It is generally recommended to use active visual rehabilitation training to accelerate the recovery process and increase the chance of success. These comprehensive visual rehabilitation training objectives are:
① to establish a stable central fixation;
② Establish accurate tracking and saccade eye movements;
③ Improve the range and flexibility of mediation;
④ Break inhibition and establish binocular fusion function;
⑤ Improve vision to normal or near normal level. If amblyopia patients have no effect on glasses, covering and traditional visual rehabilitation training, they can use other special techniques to observe whether they can recover part of their visual functions.
